Beach clean-up held in Lekki Port in observance of World Environment Day 2022

In honor of World Environment Day 2022, Lekki Port and the African Marine Environment Sustainability Initiative (AFMESI) collaborated to clean up the beach and surrounding area in the Lagos State towns of Magbon Segun and Oke Segun, located in the Ibeju Lekki area.

“Only One Earth” is the topic for this year’s World Environment Day, which was observed on June 6, 2022. It is a call for global collaboration and transformative action to celebrate, save, and restore our world.

Lekki Port organized the cleanup operation as a part of their efforts to guarantee environmental justice. By increasing its investment in the sustainability of the communities it serves and raising awareness of the effects of trash on both the environment and human health, Lekki Port demonstrates its ongoing commitment to protecting the environment.

The Baale of Magbon-Segun Community, Chief Mufutau Dauda, Managing Director of Lekki Port, Du Ruogang, Wen Xingang, Vice President of China Harbour Engineering LFTZ Enterprise, Founder/President of the African Marine Environment Sustainability Initiative, Dr. Felicia Mogo, Chief Finance Officer of Lekki Port, Cai Pingzhen, Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port, Laurence Smith, Engineer Demola Adeniran, Port Authority Engineer, Nigerian Ports Authority, Assistant Manager, Environment Health and Safety, Lekki Port, Adurayemi Ogundele, and representatives from Lagos Free Zone, LASEPA, were among those present at the beach clean-up exercise.

Speaking at the function, Lekki Port’s managing director, Du Ruogang, stated that the project represented Lekki Port’s effort to protect the environment and its natural resources. “We thank our Baales and the host communities for giving us permission to conduct this clean-up event in their space, and we will definitely make sure that it is not an isolated incident,” he declared. We are all called upon to honor, safeguard, and rebuild our planet, beginning with our local surroundings.

The project was spurred by the need to stop waste dumping, according to Dr. Felicia Mogo, Founder/President of AFMESI, who spoke at the occasion. Intervention programs were put in place to support the communities, including the provision of waste bins and tools as well as raising awareness of the impact of waste.

“Lekki Port has demonstrated excellent leadership; other organizations and individuals in attendance are cordially invited to collaborate with Lekki Port to guarantee sustainable development,” the speaker stated.
