United Nigeria Airlines Grounds Aircraft After Fresh Bird Strike Incident

United Nigeria Airlines has confirmed another bird strike involving one of its aircraft, forcing it to suspend operations of the affected plane and raising fresh concerns over aviation safety.

The latest incident occurred on Wednesday when an Airbus A320-200 operating Flight UN0515 from Port Harcourt to Abuja was struck by a bird while landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

In a statement, the airline’s spokesperson, Chibuile Uloka, disclosed that the impact affected the nose section of the aircraft. He, however, assured passengers that all safety procedures were strictly followed and no lives were at risk.

The aircraft has since been grounded to undergo comprehensive inspections and necessary maintenance before it can return to service.

The development comes just hours after the airline reported a separate bird strike involving one of its CRJ-900 aircraft, highlighting a growing pattern of incidents.

With the latest case, United Nigeria Airlines has now recorded six bird strike incidents between January and April 2026, a trend the airline described as “deeply concerning” due to its implications for safety and operational stability.

The airline warned that the grounding of affected aircraft could disrupt scheduled flights across its network, urging passengers to be patient as efforts are made to minimise delays.

It reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict safety standards, noting that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure passenger safety and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
