After an agreement was reached to hire former Venezuela and Sporting Lisbon manager Jose Peseiro as the team’s substantive coach, the ambiguity around the Super Eagles coach’s role is expected to be resolved in the next few days.
Jose Peseiro was contacted just before the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) set out to re-establish contact with him after the Augustine Eguavoen-led Technical crew was disbanded following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Despite the fact that negotiations had proceeded to a more advanced stage, the process was delayed because the Federal Ministry of Sports did not fully approve of the NFF’s choice to choose Peseiro as the new Super Eagles coach.
However, sources state that all parties have reached a consensus and are prepared to proceed with Peseiro’s appointment. It is reported that Peseiro has consented to reside in the nation while working here. His appointment will soon be formally announced, as the NFF is currently involved in a legal battle with former coach Gernot Rohr on the conditions of his dismissal.
