Wizkid fans make fun of Angelique Kidjo for winning a Grammy.

Wizkid’s fans were unhappy as the Nigerian Afrobeats musician failed to win both of his nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

Mohabaat by Arooj Aftab won the Best Global Music Performance prize instead of Wizkid’s Essence. Similarly, Mother Nature by Angelique Kidjo defeated Made in Lagos, which was nominated for Best Global Music Album.

Although Wizkid had not yet commented on the accolades, his horde of supporters, dubbed Wizkid Fc, had vented their resentment on Kidjo’s social media profile.

The singer then turned off the comments section on her celebratory Instagram post. This did not stop followers, though, who used her earlier posts to voice their displeasure with her success.

“Stupid, Wizkid deserves the award not you because na rubbish you dey sing up and down,” said @_otos_world.

@Chioma Jay remarked, “Wizkid is deserving of the award!”

“We should be able to comment on your last post, madam Grammy,” added @officialkabar.

“You ought to allow the next generation to create history as well. What song did you even sing? I couldn’t find it anyplace or on the radio. @leehoonstro5353 remarked, “Wizkid got nothing for his song that’s all over the world.

“No hate, but I want to know how you deserve the award because, honestly, you don’t deserve it,” said @IcetheDJ. Your record wasn’t very excellent, and no one is aware of it. Wizkid deserves it, not you, as far as you and I am concerned (sic).

“You were duped by Wizkid,” said @luisogemi.

Essence, which features Tems, a rapidly rising talent, was released in October 2020 as the eleventh track on Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos.

Wizkid created history in July when he released Essence, becoming the first Nigerian artist to have a record on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. In September, the song peaked at number nine.

In August, Made in Lagos, his album, also debuted at the top of the Billboard World Album Chart.
