At least four people have been killed in a violent clash involving suspected rival cult groups in Owo, Ondo State, on Monday. The victims included a woman and her baby, who were reportedly struck by stray bullets during the shootout, along with two others who were directly shot in the confrontation.

Details of the Clash

Eyewitnesses reported hearing sporadic gunfire throughout the morning as the two groups clashed in various parts of the town. The violence persisted for several hours, leading to the deaths of the four victims. One witness expressed relief that students were not in the area at the time, as the sounds of gunshots filled the town.

The bodies of the deceased were later taken to the morgue at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.

Police Response and Investigation

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that police officers had been deployed to the community to restore calm. “Four people have been confirmed dead, but normalcy has returned through the intervention of the police, and efforts are underway to arrest those responsible for the violence,” Odunlami said.

The police have assured the public that steps are being taken to ensure that those responsible for the killings are apprehended and brought to justice.
