A tragic tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, has reportedly left five people dead and caused extensive damage to properties, including banks and vehicles. The explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon along the busy Old Lagos-Asaba Road, near the First Bank in Agbor Central.

Details of the Incident

According to sources, the petrol tanker, which was attempting to make a turn near First Bank, lost control and burst into flames. The fire quickly spread, scorching many people and properties in its path. Several houses, including two banks (First Bank and Access Bank), and vehicles were consumed by the flames.

The explosion left at least five people confirmed dead, with many others suffering injuries. The absence of firefighters at the scene further exacerbated the situation, as the fire continued to spread uncontrollably. Witnesses reported that some of the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Official Statement from the Police

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, provided a different account, confirming that two people died in the incident. He stated that two banks, two vehicles, and two houses were affected by the explosion. While the number of fatalities differed, the devastation caused by the explosion and subsequent fire remains significant.

The authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and efforts are underway to provide assistance to the injured and affected individuals.
