Ogun Police Investigate Mysterious Death of Hotel Supervisor in Abeokuta

The family of AbdulRazaq Ajani, a retired Controller of Work at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, has shared the harrowing details of his brutal murder, which took place on New Year’s Day in Ilorin. Ajani was fatally attacked in the presence of his wife and children shortly after returning home from Offa, Kwara State, where he had spent the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Dele Gege Street, in the Aderoju area, off Awolowo Road, located in the Tanke area of Ilorin, the state capital. According to family members, the assailants appeared to have followed Ajani from Offa to Ilorin.

A family member, speaking under condition of anonymity, described how four young men, estimated to be between 18 and 22 years old, arrived at Ajani’s home. Though it was unclear how they gained access to the area, CCTV footage later revealed two of the attackers standing outside the gate of Ajani’s residence while the other two strolled into the compound.

Attack in Broad Daylight

When Ajani noticed the presence of the assailants, he reportedly went to the main door to engage them in conversation. However, the situation took a deadly turn as Ajani was suddenly attacked and knocked to the ground. His family members watched in horror as the young men proceeded to hack him with what appeared to be small axes. The attack was swift and brutal. Afterward, the assailants quickly fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of unimaginable violence.

Ajani’s wife and children, who were present at the time, were left traumatized by the sight of his brutal murder. Family members described blood stains on the walls and scattered brain matter on the floor, underscoring the viciousness of the attack.

Police Investigation and Community Reaction

After the attack, neighbors were drawn to the scene by the sounds of the family’s screams. Police officers later arrived to investigate, evacuating the body and beginning their inquiry into the crime. At the time of the reporter’s visit, mourners and family members were gathered in the sitting room, while the blood-spattered corridor where Ajani was attacked remained a chilling reminder of the violence.

Ajani, a civil engineer who retired from the Federal Ministry of Works about four years ago, had returned to the ministry on a contract basis last year. His untimely death has left the community in shock, with many people offering their condolences to the grieving family.
