Tragedy struck the Rikkos community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State when the lifeless body of a 10-year-old boy, Tasi’u Abdullahi, was discovered near his family’s home after being brutally murdered by his kidnappers. The incident occurred despite his family paying part of the ransom demanded by the abductors.
The Kidnapping and Ransom Demands
Tasi’u was abducted on Monday, December 16, 2024, in front of his family’s house. According to the boy’s uncle, Aliyu Muhammad, unknown individuals lured the child away and later contacted the family five days after the abduction. The kidnappers initially demanded N50,000 for the boy’s feeding and a ransom of N1 million. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to N300,000, with the family managing to pay N150,000 via bank transfer.
Muhammad recounted, “After paying N150,000 as instructed by the abductors, we were shocked to receive a call from a woman the following day, informing us that our child had been killed and abandoned near our house.”
Discovery of the Body
On Friday, the boy’s body was found in a sack near his family home. Upon examination, it was evident that he had been strangled, with blood visible around his nose and mouth. The horrifying discovery has left the family and the community in deep grief and anger.
Arrests Made
Following the incident, two suspects were reportedly arrested in connection with the crime. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances of the case and to bring all involved to justice.
