According to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Command, 10,865 jerry-cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N65.6 million have been seized since January 2022.
The data were provided by Comptroller Bello Jibo, Customs Area Controller, Seme Command, during a media briefing on the distribution of illegal substances that have been confiscated and the prevention of petroleum product smuggling.
Jibo, who gave the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and several other illegal substances, including 100 cartons of gabadol/tramadol 120 mg, 2.8 kg, and 306 parcels of cannabis sativa, 132 packets of tramadol capsules, and 77 packets of tramadol, claimed it was in a quest to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians, most especially the fight against drug trafficking.
He said: “Our men’s constant patrol of the beaches and creeks has resulted in yet another massive interception of 1,600 jerry cans of petroleum product, each containing 30 fitres.” The arrest was made along the Seme-Badagry canals late on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
