As they vie for the nation’s top football administration position, front-runners for this month’s NFF presidential election have been urged by FIFA Council Member and Nigeria Football Federation President Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick to run honorable, rancour-free campaigns.

Pinnick met with the current NFF First Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, the current Second Vice President/LMC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the current Chairman of Chairmen, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on Wednesday. In the NFF Elective General Assembly, which is set for Benin City on September 30, all of them have submitted forms to run for the top position in Nigerian football.

The three were instructed to seek votes by the FIFA Council Member, who is also a member of the CAF Executive Committee.

To let everyone know that I don’t have a candidate in this race, I called this gathering. Because we have worked and marched together for the past eight years in pursuit of the best for Nigerian football, each and every one of you is my candidate. In my opinion, you are all striving for the position so that we may build on the small progress we have made and maintain or even exceed our legacies.

“I implore everyone to approach the campaigns with the highest respect, refrain from any abrasive remarks, and keep in mind that we are all members of the same family that has spent the last eight years working for Nigeria Football’s best interests. I hope each  and everyone of you the very best with the voting college.”

Along with a number of other contenders, such as former international player Idah Peterside, CAF’s Head of Safety and Security Christian Emeruwa, and esteemed technocrat and former Chairman of Kano Pillars Abba Abdullahi Yola, Akinwunmi, who is also the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, faces off against Gusau, who is also the Chairman of the Zamfara State Football Association and Dikko.

“Serving others should never be a life-or-death situation. We are still a single, inseparable family dedicated to Nigeria Football’s development. I will be available to offer assistance and motivation to the victor. I continue to be a major stakeholder in Nigerian football as a member of the top organizations of CAF and FIFA. The best candidate with the best programs is what our football team deserves.

Other interested individuals have until midnight of Thursday, 8th September 2022 to pick up their forms
