Eleven candidates have been approved by the NFF Electoral Committee 2022 to run for the NFF President position in the Federation’s elections, which are set for Friday, September 30 in Benin City.
First Vice President Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, Second Vice President Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the Chairmen Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Board Member Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, former General Secretary Barr. Musa Amadu, and Head of Safety and Security of the Confederation of African Football, Dr. Christian Emeruwa, are at the top of the list.
Former NFF First Vice President Mazi Amanze Uchegbulam, FCT Football Association Chairman Mallam Adam Mouktar Mohammed, former Nigerian international goalkeeper Peterside Idah, former Kano Pillars FC Chairman and esteemed technocrat Alhaji Abba Abdullahi Yola, and UK-based David-Buhari Doherty have also been cleared for the elevated position, which will be vacated by FIFA Council Member Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick.
The same axe that eliminated Mr. Marcellinus Anyanwu from Imo State from the competition also disqualified Mr. Paul Yusuf from Plateau State due to an ineligible nomination.
Three candidates will compete for the position of first vice president: Mr. Chinedu Okoye, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, and Senator Obinna Ogba, both of whom are already members of the board.
Only Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed “Fresh,” a current board member, received the application and was approved for the Chairman of Chairmen position.
Pastor Emeka Inyama of Abia State, Mr. Chikelue Iloenyosi of Anambra State, Mr. Karibe Pascal Ojigwe of Abia State, Mr. Jude Benjamin Obikwelu of Anambra State, and Sir Emmanuel Ochiagha of Imo State are the candidates running for seats on the Executive Committee from the South East.
Mr. Daniel Amokachi (Benue State), Hon. Idris Abdullahi Musa (Kwara State), Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen (Benue State), Mr. Benedict Akwuegbu (Plateau State), and Alhaji Mohammed Alkali (Nasarawa State) are the representatives for North Central.
With Chief Kenneth Nwaomucha (Delta State), Mr. Gregory Abang (Cross River State), Mr. Roland Abu Omomoh (Edo State), Barr. Poubeni Ogun (Bayelsa State), Mr. Jarret Tenebe (Edo State), and Rt. Hon. Essien Udofot (Akwa Ibom State) also running for seats from that zone, Ms. Aisha Falode, the current member of the board, is the front-runner.
Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, a current member of the board, is the front-runner for the South West seats. Other candidates include Barr. Pelumi Jacob Olajengbesi, Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi of Ondo State, Mr. Afolabi Taiwo Olugbenga of Osun State, and Mr. Ayodeji Adegbenro of Ondo State. Osun State resident Mr. Ayodeji Ogunjobi was disqualified for failing to produce proof of tax payment.
Candidates from the Northeast include Mr. Timothy Henman Magaji (Taraba State), Barr. Sajo Mohammed (Adamawa State), and Alhaji Babagana Kalli (Borno State), who is currently a member of the board.
The single contender from the North West is Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, a current member of the board from Kano State.
