The executive governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has stated that the Eket Sports Stadium, which has a capacity of 18,000, would open on Friday, September 30, 2022.
On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Emmanuel posted this confirmation along with the rationale behind his administration’s decision to build the sports facility on his verified Facebook page.
I adore sports, and I know that sports development can help our hordes of young people reach their goals and maintain their health,” he added.
I constructed this 18,000-seat stadium in Eket for that reason, and it will be inaugurated on Friday with a friendly match between Akwa United and Katsina United.
Akwa Ibom State has seen tremendous success in sports since the start of his administration in 2015.
Mr. Emmanuel concluded his remarks by stating that “Akwa Ibom is unarguably the home of sports in Nigeria” because of two Federation Cup triumphs, Akwa United FC’s first-ever NPFL championship, Dakkada FC’s promotion to the NPFL, Ibom Youths FC’s promotion to the National League, and individual achievements in other sports.
According to Sportsration, the stadium’s opening is a part of the celebrations for the state’s 35th anniversary. Additionally, it is home to the Nest of Champions, which can accommodate 35,000 people.
On Friday, September 30, at 3 p.m., the Eket Sports Stadium will be opened before Akwa United FC will take on Katsina United FC in the first ever match at the newly constructed edifice by 4pm .
