Osun 2022: My intention in running for governor is not to serve my personal interests. Ogunbiyi

Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, the Accord Party’s candidate for governor of Osun State, has said that he is running for governor of Osun State not for personal benefit but rather to serve the people of Osun and use his divinely endowed skills to lead the state to progress and prosperity.

This was said by the candidate for governor over the weekend during a meeting with state retirees in Osogbo, the state capital.

He said that he would not have turned down the N2 billion that All Progressives Congress (APC) officials had offered him to help the party win the 2018 governorship contest if he had been running for personal benefit.

He went on to say that the APC had also promised him lucrative jobs for his followers and senatorial seats in an attempt to get him to defect, but he had declined the proposals.

Ogunbiyi claimed that because his goal in politics is to find every means of improving the lives of as many people as possible, he was not tempted to accept the offers.
“How would many people have improved if I had accepted the money and the offers?” he questioned.

“Even if someone offers me the entire world, I won’t take it; what the APC offered was insufficient to what I spent.” By God’s grace, I am independent of everyone and did not accept anything in exchange for my campaign. I’m not wealthy, but I’m not bad. “I have what will last me for the next 60 years, and I am 60 years old now,” he said.

The candidate for governor stated that he has no agreement with the APC or PDP and that he is committed to running for governor and winning the office.

“It is my intention to see that the two political parties are defeated during the July 16 governorship election,” declared the Accord Party candidate.

Ogunbiyi promised the retirees that they would not regret backing him in the gubernatorial race because, within six months of taking office, he would settle all pending pensioner benefits and gratuities.

He clarified that as a significant figure in the business sector, he was aware that providing for pensions would boost the state’s economy and enable the elderly to enjoy their latter years.

Retirees expressed confidence in Ogunbiyi’s chances of winning the upcoming election and vowed their support for him.

In response to a petition submitted by a few PDP members to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging that he had obtained N500 million from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Ogunbiyi stated, “I offered myself to the EFCC but I didn’t spend two hours with them.” I showed them all of my accounts and informed them that a check can only be written for a maximum of one million dollars. It was obvious that this was a false alarm and that the check connected to the petition is bogus, so they advised me to go.

“I have made it clear on multiple times that I am not affiliated with Tinubu in any way, either professionally or ideologically. My political opponents made all of the statements, and the woman who started it has apologized to me.
