The recipient of the 2021 Global Muslim Personality Award is Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, according to the Islamic publication Muslim News Nigeria.
When making the announcement over the weekend, newspaper publisher Alhaji Rasheed Abubakar mentioned that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been the recipient of the 2018 award, which was created to honor Muslim achievers in a variety of fields, including politics and administration.
Abubakar congratulated Al Thani and the Qatari people, adding that the emir was selected as the winner of the 2021 edition for his promotion of peace by the Nigerian Muslim medium.
Abubakar claims that Sheikh Al Thani has repeatedly ordered his government to get involved in disputes, wars, and other matters that could endanger the lives of Muslims all over the world.
“Emir Tamim would rather create an avenue for dialogue, allowing both sides of the divide to come to the table to discuss and find a common ground for peace and order,” he stated. “Rather than pitching its tent in states of conflict.” As a leader, he is well known for having unusually good ears for hearing, as he pays attention to the suffering of marginalized communities, including Muslims.
“The Emir’s strategy has not only prevented innocent people from dying but also brought some degree of peace back to many of the impacted areas in the Middle East and the Muslim world as a whole.
“Al-Thani has led the Qatari government to find peace for the Muslim population worldwide, from the West Bank to Kabul, Cairo to Baghdad, Khartoum to Naypyidaw, Tripoli to Tehran, Damascus to Sana’a, Beirut to Beijing, among other global capitals. And it is for this reason that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will get the esteemed 2021 Global Muslim Personality Award from Muslim News Nigeria.
Abubakar continued, saying that Qatar had established itself as a tranquil place to live under the direction of Emir Tamim.
He noted that Qatar, led by Emir Sheikh Tamim Bn Hamad Al Thani, has a population of approximately two million and was awarded the privilege to host the 2022 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18. He mentioned that Qatar would be the first Arab country to hold the world’s largest football competition thanks to the tournament.
The newspaper listed other winners as Senegalese football player Sadio Mane (Global Muslim Celebrity of the Year), Pakistani-American lawyer, author, and podcast host Rabia Chaudry (Global Muslim Legal Person of the Year), Indian journalist and opinion columnist with American daily The Washington Post Rana Ayyub (Global Muslim Media Person of the Year), and Afghanistan’s top educator, Azizullah “Aziz” Royesh (Global Muslim Teacher of the Year).
