Nasiru Gawuna, former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna confirmed that his decision takes immediate effect, bringing an end to his tenure at the helm of the housing finance institution.
The former Deputy Governor of Kano State said his resignation was in line with a directive by President Bola Tinubu, mandating political appointees with ambitions for the 2027 general elections to step down in compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act.
Gawuna expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his time as FMBN board chairman as a privilege that allowed him to contribute to national development and the growth of the bank.
His exit comes shortly after he also resigned his membership of the ruling APC, further signaling a strategic political move ahead of the next election cycle.
