Eid-el-Fitr: IG Orders Nationwide Police Deployment to Prayer Grounds, Public Spaces
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed a nationwide deployment of police personnel and tactical units to ensure a safe and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Force spokesperson, Anthony Placid, the police chief ordered Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement robust security measures throughout the festive period.
Tight Security at Key Locations
The directive includes the strategic deployment of intelligence operatives, Special Intervention Squad units, and conventional police officers to Eid prayer grounds and other critical infrastructure.
Security presence will also be intensified at highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces expected to witness large gatherings during the celebrations.
According to the police, the move is aimed at ensuring “peaceful and hitch-free celebrations” nationwide.
Enhanced Surveillance and Patrols
The Inspector-General further ordered increased visibility policing, coordinated patrols, and enhanced surveillance operations. Intelligence-led stop-and-search activities will also be carried out to deter crime and enable rapid response to potential threats.
Public Urged to Stay Vigilant
Disu congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan and extended Eid greetings, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
He called on members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.
The directive comes as millions of Nigerians prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, with authorities ramping up security nationwide to maintain law and order during the festivities.
