The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the arrest of 16 senior and mid-level military officers over serious acts of indiscipline and violations of service rules, with several of them now set to face court-martial.
According to DHQ, the officers are being investigated for multiple offences, including an alleged attempt to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confirmation came on Monday in Abuja through a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba. He disclosed that a special investigative panel had completed its assignment and determined that a number of the officers had substantial cases to answer.
Major General Uba explained that those indicted would be tried before appropriate military judicial panels, in strict accordance with existing laws, procedures, and service regulations. He stressed that the conduct of the officers ran contrary to the core values, ethics, and professional standards expected of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
