2026 LG Polls: ADSIEC Starts Chairmanship Candidate Screening in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has begun the screening of chairmanship candidates ahead of the 2026 Local Government Council elections, pledging an open, impartial and credible process for all political parties.

The exercise was formally declared open at the commission’s headquarters in Yola by the ADSIEC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Umar, who described the screening as a major step in preparations for the council polls scheduled for June 13, 2026.

Umar explained that the ongoing exercise covers chairmanship candidates from all registered political parties participating in the election, alongside their respective running mates.

He noted that the screening represents a crucial phase in the electoral calendar and underscores the commission’s commitment to conducting transparent grassroots elections.

Addressing members of the State Screening Committee and other stakeholders, the ADSIEC chairman said preparations for the elections began as far back as July 10, 2025, with the official release of the Notice of Election.

Since then, the commission has engaged extensively with political party leaders, security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure inclusiveness, adherence to electoral guidelines and a peaceful electoral environment across the state.

Umar revealed that all political parties successfully conducted their primaries within the approved timetable and duly obtained and submitted the required nomination documents, including Forms CF 001 and EC 4C.

He added that the commission carefully reviewed, verified and publicly displayed the details of all submitted candidates at both the Local Government offices and the ADSIEC headquarters, in line with established electoral standards.

Describing the screening process as a significant milestone, Umar said the Screening Committee was deliberately assembled to guarantee professionalism and public trust.

The committee, he noted, includes ADSIEC officials and representatives from key security and regulatory bodies such as the Nigeria Police, the State Security Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the State Board of Internal Revenue.

“These individuals were selected based on integrity and competence to ensure a fair and unbiased screening exercise,” he said.

The ADSIEC chairman assured aspirants and political parties that the commission would uphold the principles of fairness, transparency and equal treatment throughout the exercise.

He emphasized that no candidate or party would be favoured over another and that the process would strictly comply with the rule of law and ethical standards.

Umar also acknowledged the role of the media in promoting accountability, praising journalists for their consistent and objective reporting, which he said helps strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

Reaffirming ADSIEC’s determination to deliver credible local government elections in Adamawa State, Umar wished all candidates a smooth and successful screening.

Meanwhile, chairmanship aspirants from different political parties have praised the conduct of the screening, describing it as well-organized, transparent and professionally handled.
