Tragedy has struck the camp of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua following the death of his personal trainer, Latz, in a fatal car accident in Nigeria—barely 24 hours after his arrival in the country.
Earlier reports had revealed that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. While the boxing star reportedly escaped with minor injuries, the crash claimed the lives of two people.
According to available information, the incident occurred when the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck on the highway. The crash is believed to have been caused by excessive speed and a dangerous overtaking maneuver.
Subsequent reports confirmed that the victims were members of Joshua’s close-knit coaching team. Latz, his longtime personal trainer, and Sina, his strength and conditioning coach, both lost their lives in the accident.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by three-division world boxing champion Badou Jack, who took to Instagram to express his shock and grief.
In his tribute, Jack prayed for divine mercy for Latz, writing: “Still in shock. May Allah forgive you for your shortcomings and grant you the highest level of paradise.”
ACD MMA also corroborated the reports, stating that the two individuals who died in the crash were Joshua’s coaches and close friends.
Sina had recently worked closely with Joshua and was seen preparing him for his bout just two weeks ago, while Latz served as his personal trainer.
