Three personnel of the Nigerian Army have been taken into custody following an alleged assault on police officers along the Shao–Malete Expressway in Kwara State.
According to a situation report from the Shao Police Unit, the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on December 23, 2025, when a police patrol team stopped two motorcycles for a routine check along the highway.
The report stated that the three individuals on the motorcycles, later identified as soldiers, reportedly became aggressive after disembarking, confronting the officers and attempting to disarm them. During the altercation, one of the officers, PC Abdulganiyu Abdullateef, sustained injuries.
Police said the patrol team immediately requested reinforcement from their division. However, before additional officers arrived, the suspects escaped from the scene.
One of the motorcycle riders, identified as Saka Suleiman, a resident of Shao, was apprehended at the location. During interrogation, he reportedly identified one of the fleeing suspects as Saka Jamiu, a native of the community.
A coordinated search operation was subsequently launched, leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects in the early hours of December 24, 2025. At about 1:00 a.m., police operatives arrested Atunwa Adekunle, Ishola Awolola, and Saka Jamiu — all male natives of Shao and confirmed members of the Nigerian Army.
A dagger was also recovered from the suspects during the arrest, police disclosed.
