Award-winning Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially declared his political affiliation with the Accord Party, throwing his weight behind his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The singer made the announcement public on Tuesday through his verified 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, where he revealed plans to travel to Osogbo to formally register as a member of the party and collect his membership card.
“I’ll be live in Osun tomorrow to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card at Imole House, Osogbo,” Davido wrote, tagging both the party and Governor Adeleke in the post.
Davido’s political move comes just weeks after Governor Adeleke officially adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform following his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor announced his defection on December 9, 2025, during a well-attended event at the Government House in Osogbo, where leaders of the Accord Party at both national and state levels were present.
The switch marked a significant shift in Osun’s political landscape, with Governor Adeleke confirming his intention to seek a second term under the Accord Party’s banner in the 2026 governorship race.
Addressing the reasons behind his exit from the PDP, the governor pointed to unresolved leadership disputes at the party’s national level. He revealed that his decision to join the Accord Party was finalized on November 6, following extensive consultations with political stakeholders, party leaders, and opinion shapers across Osun State.
According to Adeleke, the move was aimed at protecting his re-election bid while promoting political stability within the state.
Davido had earlier fueled speculation about his political involvement after reacting subtly to news of his uncle’s resignation from the PDP, reposting the announcement online with a brief and cryptic caption, “Jeje…”.
