Gombe Governor Dismisses Four Aides Over Assault on Councillor

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the immediate dismissal of four of his aides following the outcome of an investigative panel set up to probe the assault on Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli. According to the statement, the aides were indicted by a special committee constituted to investigate the incident, with its findings supported by reports from security agencies.

The directive, communicated through the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, identified the affected officials as Adamu Abdullahi Danko, Senior Special Assistant II on Domestic Affairs; Garba Mohammed Mai Rago, Senior Special Assistant II on Political Matters; Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar, Senior Special Assistant II on Social Media; and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya, Senior Special Assistant II on Community Relations.

Governor Yahaya ordered that their disengagement take effect immediately. He also instructed the dismissed aides to promptly return all government-owned items in their custody to the appropriate authorities.

The governor reiterated his administration’s firm stance against violence, misconduct and abuse of public office, warning that any action capable of disrupting public peace or eroding trust in government would be met with decisive sanctions.

He further reassured residents of Gombe State of his commitment to upholding the rule of law, promoting accountability and maintaining peaceful coexistence, stressing that the government would continue to take necessary steps to preserve the stability and security of the state.

Meanwhile, footage of the incident that sparked the investigation has continued to circulate on social media, drawing widespread public attention.
