The Nigerian military has detained four police officers for allegedly providing unauthorized VIP escort services, in violation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that withdrew police personnel from such duties.
Sources within the police told Zagazola Makama that the arrests occurred on December 17 at approximately 9:30 a.m., while the officers were reportedly on an escort assignment.
The arrested officers have been identified as:
* Assistant Superintendent of Police Musa Waziri – 45 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Abuja
* Inspector Jeremiah Achimogu – 45 PMF, Abuja
* Inspector Awipi Terry – 21 PMF
* Inspector Hassan Baba – 50 PMF, Abuja
According to security insiders, the military apprehended the officers after they allegedly ignored the presidential directive prohibiting police involvement in VIP protection.
Investigations revealed that the officers were reportedly dressed in uniforms resembling those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), allegedly attempting to avoid detection.
Following their arrest, the officers were taken into custody, and internal disciplinary procedures have reportedly been initiated in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force regulations.
The Federal Government had previously issued the directive to withdraw police personnel from unauthorized VIP protection duties, aiming to redeploy officers to core policing responsibilities and bolster internal security operations nationwide.
