The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially announced public holidays for the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, December 25 and 26, 2025, have been set aside to observe Christmas Day and Boxing Day, while January 1, 2026, will be observed as New Year’s Day.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the deeper meaning of the Christmas season, emphasizing values such as love, peace, humility, and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ.
He also encouraged citizens across the country, irrespective of religion or ethnic background, to take advantage of the festive period to pray for unity, security, and continued national development.
Tunji-Ojo further advised Nigerians to conduct themselves responsibly during the celebrations, calling on the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant in order to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday period.

The minister concluded by extending warm Christmas greetings to Nigerians and wishing them a joyful celebration and a prosperous New Year ahead.
