Davido Clarifies Collaboration with Omah Lay Was About Friendship, Not Feud

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his recent collaboration with fellow artist Omah Lay, revealing that their joint effort was meant to clear up misconceptions about their relationship.

In 2024, Omah Lay had shared that he initially believed Davido “hated” him—until the DMW boss surprised him by playing his songs during a widely shared livestream with American content creator Kai Cenat in Lagos.

Speaking about how the partnership came about, Davido recounted that it all started after he noticed a tweet from Omah Lay. “Kai Cenat came to Nigeria, and I was driving him to the club when one of Omah Lay’s songs played. He asked, ‘Who is this?’ I told him, ‘This is Omah Lay, he’s really talented,’” Davido said.

The next day, Omah Lay tweeted his surprise at Davido’s praise, admitting he had assumed the Afrobeats star disliked him. Davido quickly reached out via direct message to reassure him: “Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.”

From that point, the two artists exchanged numbers and began collaborating, recording four tracks together. Ultimately, they decided to release “With You,” a standout single from Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive.
