Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has expressed strong belief in the Super Eagles’ ability to lift the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.
His comments came shortly after head coach Eric Chelle unveiled the final 28-man squad for the tournament in Morocco.
Taking to Instagram, Mikel Obi, who played a key role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON triumph, encouraged the team with a simple but powerful message: “Bring it home lads.”

Nigeria will be aiming for their fourth continental title, hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Despite recent inconsistencies, fans remain hopeful that a successful AFCON run can reignite confidence in the team.
Chelle had initially released a 55-man provisional list, trimming it down to 28 players for the final squad. The roster includes five uncapped players, while notable names such as Christantus Uche, Maduka Okoye, and Tolu Arokodare missed out.

Although the Super Eagles have struggled to consistently deliver against weaker opponents in recent games, their history of rising to the occasion in major tournaments keeps optimism alive. With stars like Victor Osimhen and several in-form players included, Nigeria still has the firepower to make a serious impact in Morocco.
Supporters and analysts alike will be watching closely as the team seeks to combine experience and youthful energy in the quest for continental glory.
