Details Of Tinubu’s Meeting With Oyetola, Uzodinma, Akume, Osun APC Governorship Aspirants

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday evening met with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and Osun State governorship aspirants at the State House, Abuja, urging them to prioritize party unity and consensus as the party prepares for its primary election on December 13.

According to a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the meeting brought together the leading APC aspirants in Osun State, including former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Also present were top APC officials, including National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum Hope Uzodimma, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola.

During the meeting, President Tinubu commended the aspirants for their dedication to the party in Osun State. He emphasized the importance of closing ranks and supporting whichever candidate the party ultimately selects, highlighting that internal divisions had contributed to APC’s loss to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the previous election.

“Your foremost responsibility is to the party and its success. By rallying behind the consensus candidate, you strengthen APC’s chances of winning and ensure the continuity of good governance in Osun State. I have full confidence in your ability to deliver victory, and you have my support and that of the national leadership,” Tinubu said.

Following the discussions, the aspirants and party leaders issued a joint statement committing to uphold party unity and support the consensus candidate chosen for the December 13 primary. Key points from the statement include:

1. Affirmation of APC’s supremacy in determining the party’s governorship candidate for Osun State.

2. Agreement to respect the party’s decision to nominate a consensus candidate for the upcoming primary.

3. Commitment to support the candidate nominated by the party.

4. Pledge to maintain peace, unity, and cohesion within the APC, avoiding any actions that could undermine the party’s integrity.

5. Dedication to collectively and individually ensuring the party’s success in the polls and strengthening good governance in Osun State.
