Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent security initiatives, describing them as yielding “tangible results” since the declaration of a national emergency on insecurity.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, Ndume highlighted that the President’s renewed focus on security is helping to reclaim previously ungoverned areas while improving coordination among Nigeria’s security agencies.
One key intervention, according to Ndume, was President Tinubu’s directive for the Department of State Services (DSS) to deploy its trained forest guards to tackle bandits operating in forests and difficult terrains. He emphasized that the forest guards’ involvement has bolstered joint operations and complemented the Nigerian Army’s efforts.
“President Tinubu’s commitment that there will be no hiding places for agents of evil, combined with ongoing recruitment into the Nigerian Police Force and the Army, demonstrates a clear and focused strategy,” Ndume said.
Ndume, a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, also lauded improvements in troop welfare, including salary adjustments and morale-boosting measures, while noting that further enhancements are needed to match regional standards.
“While the remuneration review is a step in the right direction, it still falls short compared to other armed forces in the sub-region,” he remarked. The senator also acknowledged recent upgrades in military equipment, uniforms, and protective gear, describing them as “visible improvements” that strengthen operational effectiveness.
However, Ndume urged the government to prioritize the provision of arms and ammunition, including attack helicopters, armored personnel carriers, and gun trucks, to enhance frontline operations.
Representing Borno South Senatorial District—an area severely affected by insurgency—Ndume also praised Governor Babagana Zulum for his consistent support of security operations.
According to the senator, Zulum has invested over N100 billion to support the Nigerian Army, Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), police, and other security agencies, significantly aiding stabilization efforts across the state.

“This level of commitment by Governor Zulum should serve as a model for other Northern governors,” Ndume added, calling for continued collaboration between state and federal authorities to ensure lasting security.
