The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has directed staff and students at its Ilesha Baruba campus to temporarily move to the main campus in Malete, following heightened security concerns in parts of Kwara State.
This decision, according to the university, is a proactive precaution aimed at safeguarding members of the academic community amid recent security incidents affecting some local government areas.
The development comes days after the Kwara State Government shut down several schools in communities that suffered recent bandit attacks.
Authorities have since assured the public that both the state and federal governments are working closely to restore peace and strengthen security operations in the affected regions.
KWASU’s Ilesha Baruba campus, located in Baruten Local Government Area, was one of the communities that experienced attacks in recent weeks before relative calm returned.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, the institution confirmed that an on-site assessment showed no immediate threat. She noted that staff and students remained calm and optimistic despite the relocation directive.
“Our visit to the Ilesha Baruba campus showed that the environment remained peaceful, with students and staff in good spirits despite the planned relocation,” Dr. Aliyu said.

The university further revealed that preparations for its 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to begin on December 9, are progressing smoothly. It added that the Ilesha Baruba community would fully participate in all convocation activities slated to hold at the Malete main campus.
KWASU assured that the relocation is temporary and emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of its academic community remain its top priority.
