The father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has confirmed that the musician will be laid to rest immediately after the completion of a DNA test that has delayed his burial.

Tensions have arisen between Aloba and Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi “Wunmi” Aloba, over the paternity of their child, Master Liam Aloba.

In a video circulating online, Joseph Aloba described the DNA test as the “most important factor” preventing the funeral from taking place. He said:

“Today is the DNA court case, my lawyer is here, and I am telling the whole world that this is the most important thing and this is what has been delaying the burial of Mohbad. After the DNA is done, we will immediately move on to the burial.”

Widow Takes Legal Steps to Protect Estate

Meanwhile, Mohbad’s wife has taken proactive legal measures to prevent any unauthorised claims over the late singer’s estate.

She filed a formal notice at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, urging the Probate Registry to reject any application for Letters of Administration that is not submitted by legally recognised beneficiaries.

According to a letter dated November 19, 2025, submitted by the law firm Salawu, Akingbolu & Co., Wunmi confirmed that she had filed Form 5 and Form 6, which legally bar the issuance of Letters of Administration to anyone other than the lawful heirs.

The letter, signed by I. P. Awo (Esq.), officially identifies Omowunmi as the legal wife of Mohbad and the mother of his only surviving child, Master Liam Aloba.

Public Announcement to Prevent Fraudulent Claims

The correspondence also revealed that public notices were placed in two national newspapers in November 2025, warning against any “surreptitious or fraudulent attempts to claim the estate without proper legal process.”

Wunmi’s legal team emphasized that the notice is part of the court records and remains legally binding until the estate is duly administered according to the law.

As the DNA test proceeds, the family has indicated that Mohbad’s burial will follow promptly, putting an end to the months-long delay amid the dispute over his estate and the paternity of his son.
