The Kano State Government has called for the immediate arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accusing him of making destabilizing remarks that allegedly coincided with rising insecurity in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this on Friday while addressing journalists on resolutions reached during the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
According to Waiya, the state recorded a disturbing security breach barely two days after Ganduje publicly declared his intention to form what he described as a “militia group” in Kano.
He said bandits reportedly infiltrated one of the state’s communities and abducted several residents shortly after the former governor’s comments.
“Less than 48 hours after former Governor Ganduje’s outburst about wanting to create a militia group in Kano, bandits invaded a community and kidnapped multiple people,” Waiya stated, suggesting a troubling correlation between the remarks and renewed criminal activity.
Waiya also reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to safeguard lives and property, noting that the federal government has shown commitment to addressing the state’s security challenges.
Meanwhile, Ganduje — who serves as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — has been holding political consultations of his own in Kano.
Speaking at the closing session of a four-day strategy meeting at his residence, Ganduje announced that APC leaders across the state had agreed to begin openly endorsing President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The gathering brought together APC chairmen, caucus members, and influential stakeholders from all 44 local government areas.
Ganduje said the meetings were designed to rebuild trust, strengthen party unity, and reinforce Kano’s relevance within the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The purpose of this engagement over the last three days has been to ensure complete unity in our party and to reaffirm our loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” he told attendees.

He added that the large turnout and enthusiasm displayed by party delegates demonstrated their commitment to keeping the APC dominant both in Kano State and across Nigeria.
