The Lagos State Police Command has ramped up its security presence across the state, covering schools, markets, places of worship, and major public areas, as part of measures to tackle rising insecurity nationwide.

This intensified operation comes alongside the arrest of 56 individuals linked to various criminal activities in the metropolis, the Command confirmed on Monday.

Recent weeks have witnessed escalating security concerns across Nigeria, including Boko Haram attacks in Borno State and increasing banditry in Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states.

Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, stated that the enhanced deployment is part of a broader strategy to safeguard lives and property as the festive season approaches.

“Our officers are stationed at strategic locations including worship centres, markets, recreational spots, and major highways. The aim is to ensure a safe and crime-free season for Lagosians,” Jimoh said. He added that the security situation in Lagos remains stable, thanks not only to police efforts but also to the collaboration and support of the public.

The CP disclosed that all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Squads, and Unit Commanders had been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly at worship centres during services.

Intelligence-driven operations have begun producing results. Within November alone, the Command recovered ten stolen vehicles, several firearms, and dangerous weapons, including machetes, a battle axe, and an assault dagger.

Offenders apprehended during the operations faced charges ranging from armed robbery, conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, theft, to threats to life. Authorities also seized locally made pistols, cut-to-size guns, military camouflage, charms, and counterfeit currency valued at $4,000.

“These recoveries are part of a deliberate strategy to dismantle criminal networks, intercept stolen property, remove illegal firearms, and enhance public safety across Lagos State,” Jimoh explained.

The Commissioner emphasized that the seizures and arrests significantly weaken the operational capabilities of criminal gangs, reinforcing the overall security framework in the state.

“The recovery of these weapons and materials disrupts the activities of violent groups and strengthens the safety of our communities,” he added, assuring Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to maintaining law and order.
