Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially pitched his political tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), proclaiming that a “new era of genuine opposition” has begun as he prepares for another run at national leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku announced his new political home on Monday after registering as a member of the ADC at his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State—an act that finally ends weeks of speculation following his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Brandishing his fresh membership card, Atiku declared that his mission is clear: “The moment has come. With the ADC, the work of real opposition starts now. We are ready to unseat the APC and redirect this country.”
He urged his supporters across Nigeria to immediately sign up with the ADC, describing the party as a reinvigorated platform poised to reshape the nation’s political direction.
Adamawa ADC Chairman, Shehu Yohanna, who supervised Atiku’s registration, said the former vice president’s entrance marks the formal start of a statewide mobilisation drive that will cut across every local government and ward. He encouraged women and young people to seize the opportunity to join the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Sadiq Yar’Adua, National Secretary of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee, reinforced Atiku’s rallying call, urging citizens to register, vote, and “take charge of the country’s political destiny.”
The event drew an impressive array of political heavyweights from Adamawa State, a turnout observers interpret as an early sign of a major political realignment.

Among those in attendance were former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, Senator Aishatu Binani, Senator Ahmed Barata, Senator Aziz Nyako, and Senator Ishaku Abbo.
Atiku had exited the PDP in July, accusing the party of abandoning its core ideals and failing to provide the robust opposition Nigerians deserve.
