ISWAP Releases Images of Brig. Gen. Musa Uba After Borno Ambush

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has circulated a new edition of its Arabic-language propaganda bulletin, Al-Naba, featuring images of the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed in an ambush in Borno State on November 18.

The publication, Issue 522 of the weekly newspaper, appeared online on Thursday and includes censored photographs of the senior officer following the deadly attack.

The ambush occurred along the Damboa–Wajiroko axis, where Uba and several soldiers, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were escorting military hardware when insurgents opened fire on their convoy.

Reports earlier confirmed that ISWAP fighters launched a sustained attack on the troops, overwhelming the team and resulting in multiple casualties.

The release of Uba’s images—alongside screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations—has been interpreted by security analysts as part of the group’s ongoing psychological warfare aimed at demoralising military personnel and boosting its propaganda footprint.

The eight-page Al-Naba edition also outlines a series of attacks ISWAP claims to have executed recently, both within Nigeria and in coordination with Islamic State affiliates in other regions.

Among the incidents highlighted is the assault on the Damboa Brigade Headquarters earlier this week, as well as another attack reportedly carried out in Gorobatcha, Borno State.

This latest propaganda push comes amid heightened militant activity across the North-East, where the insurgent group has continued efforts to assert visibility despite intensified counterterrorism operations by Nigerian forces.

Security experts warn that the publication is part of ISWAP’s broader strategy to intimidate communities, attract recruits, and portray itself as emboldened despite ongoing military pressure.
