The All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed emerging discussions between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on forming a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC earlier hinted at the possibility of working with the PDP, but only on the condition that the opposition party is ready to embrace a different style of politics. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the comment while responding to recent statements by the newly elected PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN). Turaki had signaled that the PDP is open to building a broad-based opposition alliance to strengthen its chances in the next election cycle.
Reacting to the development, APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, told *Daily Trust* that the ruling party is unfazed by any coalition the opposition may be putting together. According to him, Nigerians are unlikely to endorse a return to what he described as the PDP’s “years of misrule.”
“The APC wishes them well—even those who were once a part of their system,” Ibrahim remarked, making a veiled reference to former President Goodluck Jonathan. “Whatever plans they are making do not worry us. As long as the electoral process is conducted fairly, we are confident Nigerians will not want to revisit the PDP era.”
He maintained that the ruling party considers Nigeria to have “moved past” the governance style of the former ruling party.

“Nigerians know what the country went through under the PDP. No responsible voter will want to take Nigeria back to that period. The nation has been rescued from that path, and we don’t expect voters to choose it again,” he added.
Despite the APC’s stance, conversations around a possible opposition merger continue as parties begin early strategies for the 2027 polls.
