Activist Omoyele Sowore Releases Evidence of Regina Daniels’ Underage Marriage to Ned Nwoko

Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko of marrying Nollywood actress Regina Daniels while she was still underage, contrary to the lawmaker’s public claim that she was 21 at the time of their marriage.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Sowore alleged that official records and travel documents prove that Daniels was 17 when she married Nwoko and only turned 18 shortly before the couple travelled abroad.

Sowore wrote that newly surfaced documents, including a copy of Daniels’ international passport, reveal her birth year as 2001, making her a teenager when the marriage reportedly took place in 2019.

“Senator Chinedu ‘Ned’ Nwoko may believe he can outsmart the public, but the record tells a different story,” Sowore stated.

“Evidence now in the public domain shows that he entered into marriage with Regina Ojeogwu Nnaemeka Favour while she was still a teenager, and the couple later travelled to the UAE soon after she turned 18.”

The activist further alleged that Nwoko personally handled his wife’s travel documentation for the trip, which was said to coincide with her 18th birthday celebration.

Sowore also accused the senator of using his political influence and connections within the Nigeria Police Force to intimidate members of his estranged wife’s family and critics who have spoken against him.

“This pattern of harassment must stop. People with immense political power and questionable fortunes use state institutions as private weapons. Justice must mean accountability, even for the rich and well-connected,” he added.

To support his claims, Sowore shared images of what he said were Regina Daniels’ passports — one allegedly issued two years before her marriage to Nwoko and another obtained after the union.

Nwoko Dismisses Allegations

Responding to the allegations, Senator Nwoko maintained that his wife was 21 when they got married, insisting that the activist’s claims were false and malicious.

He backed his statement by sharing a copy of Daniels’ voter’s card, which lists her date of birth as October 10, 1998.

The senator argued that the voter’s card serves as credible proof of her age, describing Sowore’s assertions as “a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.”

Public Reactions and Next Steps

The renewed controversy has reignited conversations on child marriage, accountability, and the abuse of political power in Nigeria.

While Sowore has called for a formal investigation into the marriage and the documents he presented, Nwoko has vowed to defend his reputation against what he described as an orchestrated smear campaign.

As of press time, neither Regina Daniels nor her representatives have publicly reacted to the allegations.
