A serious security breach hit the Kano Government House in the early hours of Monday as an unidentified car thief slipped into the premises and escaped with a Toyota Hilux belonging to the deputy governor’s convoy.
According to sources cited by Daily Nigerian, the intruder gained access through Gate 4 around 5 a.m., then boldly drove the official vehicle out through the main gate—without being challenged by on-duty security personnel.
Preliminary findings show that CCTV cameras captured the suspect leaving the compound in the white Hilux. Security officers led by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) are now analyzing the footage to trace the suspect’s identity and route of escape.
An internal source revealed that the Hilux driver, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, has been detained briefly for interrogation as part of ongoing investigations. “The CSO is reviewing all CCTV clips, and the description of the stolen vehicle has been circulated to law enforcement units for immediate recovery,” the source added.
Another insider disclosed that patrol operations around the deputy governor’s office are irregular, especially at night or during non-working hours—leaving parts of the complex vulnerable.
