In a bold political statement, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), has hinted that Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, could join the All Progressives Congress (APC) after his re-election.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Kalu described Soludo as “a progressive” aligned with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, himself, Senate President Akpabio, and the governors of Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu. “He has no alternative than to come and join us. It’s confirmed,” Kalu declared.
Kalu also addressed swirling rumors about the possible defection of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, from the Labour Party to the APC. The senator emphasized that no one in the APC, including President Tinubu, has pressured any political leader to switch allegiance. “Whether he joins or not is up to him. But for me, I will work 100% for the APC, campaign in the state, and ensure victory for President Tinubu and all our candidates,” Kalu said.
Turning his attention to the 2027 presidential race, Kalu exuded confidence in President Tinubu’s dominance. Describing the contest as “Tinubu versus Tinubu,” he insisted the President faces no serious challengers. According to Kalu, the APC enjoys broad national support, crediting Tinubu’s policies with steadily transforming Nigeria’s economy and security situation.

“Has he gotten anyone contesting against him? The election is Tinubu vs Tinubu, just like Soludo vs Soludo. The President has no options. Our party is fully on ground and with the people,” he added.
With these statements, Kalu appears to be sending a clear message: the APC is consolidating its grip in the Southeast, and its key figures see a future united under Tinubu’s leadership.
