The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Adamawa State has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that its Chairman, Rev. Joel Manzo, was abducted and beheaded by terrorists.
The false claim, first shared by a Facebook user identified as Lionman Lioni, had alleged that Rev. Manzo was kidnapped and killed by unknown assailants.
In a statement issued on Saturday and personally signed by the CAN Chairman, the Association described the report as “the handiwork of mischief-makers and agents of the underworld determined to smear the image of the government and security agencies.”
Rev. Manzo confirmed that he is safe, alive, and actively carrying out his official duties without fear or intimidation. He urged members of the public to disregard the viral post, which he said was deliberately crafted to sow confusion in an already tense national atmosphere.
“I am in good health and fully engaged in my responsibilities as the CAN Chairman. The report of my abduction and beheading is entirely false and should be ignored,” Rev. Manzo stated.
The Association also expressed appreciation to the Adamawa State Police Command for promptly issuing a statement to refute the misleading post.
CAN urged law enforcement authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the source of the rumour and ensure that those responsible face legal consequences.

“The general public should disregard such fake information. The state CAN Chairman is in good health and busy going about his official engagements in the state without any threat, fear or intimidation,” the statement concluded.
The leadership of CAN further called on social media users to verify information before sharing, stressing that the spread of false reports can cause unnecessary panic and damage reputations.
