Renowned human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticized the arrest and detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.

According to reports, Sammy West was apprehended in Lagos on November 4 by security operatives allegedly linked to Senator Ned Nwoko, Regina Daniels’ estranged husband.

He was subsequently transferred to Abuja and arraigned at a Dutse Magistrate Court on November 6 without legal representation. The court ordered that he be remanded at Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State until November 28.

Family members have expressed concern over Sammy West’s treatment, claiming he has been denied access to legal counsel and held incommunicado since his arrest. They further alleged that the arrest may be connected to a personal dispute between Nwoko and Daniels.

Earlier, Regina Daniels had raised alarm over her brother’s disappearance, while her siblings, Lawrence and Sweezzy, accused Nwoko of leveraging his political influence to orchestrate Sammy’s detention.

Sowore condemned the situation, describing it as a blatant act of tyranny. Writing on social media, he said, “It is deeply unfortunate that the unholy alliance of impunity between Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and some pliant magistrates continues to thrive despite our persistent challenge to their lawlessness. I call on the Nigeria Police Force authorities to immediately put an end to this brigandage and release Sammy West forthwith by withdrawing the bogus charges leveled against him.”
