Global Afrofusion icon and Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy, has candidly spoken about his ongoing spiritual struggle, revealing that despite his conversion from Christianity to Islam, he continues to feel uncertain about his faith.

During a recent interview with popular streamer Playboymax, the “City Boys” crooner shared rare insights into his personal beliefs, admitting that his quest for spiritual clarity has only deepened his confusion rather than resolved it.

‘I’ve Studied It All, But I’m Still Confused’ — Burna Boy

Reflecting on his spiritual journey, Burna Boy said his exploration of religion began as a sincere search for truth and meaning beyond his upbringing.

“Growing up, I was a Christian and then I converted to Islam,” he said. “It’s like I’ve studied it all, but I’m still out here trying to find out what’s really going on, you know? The more I research, the more confused I get.”

He explained that his upbringing in a Christian household naturally shaped his early beliefs, but as he grew older, he began questioning doctrines and seeking a deeper understanding of spirituality.

“Of course, because that’s what your parents believe and that’s what you were born into,” Burna reflected. “But when you start searching for yourself, you realize there’s so much more, and that’s where the questions start.”

A Personal Quest for Meaning

The Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, described his ongoing spiritual journey as deeply personal — a pursuit that transcends organized religion.

He emphasized that his exploration isn’t about rejecting faith, but about discovering truth in a world where beliefs often conflict.

“I’m still searching,” he admitted. “It’s not about choosing sides; it’s about understanding what’s real for me.”

Other Artists on Spiritual Journeys

Burna Boy’s revelation comes months after fellow Nigerian singer 9ice announced that he had abandoned Islam for the Ifa traditional religion, following what he described as a “spiritual attack” that left him bedridden for six months.

The growing number of Nigerian entertainers publicly discussing their faith reflects a broader trend of artists using their platforms to question long-held beliefs and explore spirituality on personal terms.
