Oyo High Court Clears Way for PDP National Convention in Ibadan

FCT Director Explains PDP's 28-Year Ground Rent Arrears and Property Revocation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received a legal green light to proceed with its much-anticipated national convention, scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, following a ruling by a High Court in Oyo State.

Justice A. L. Akintola issued the judgment on Monday, granting an ex parte application filed by party member Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

The ruling effectively nullifies an earlier restraining order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had halted preparations for the convention just last week.

The convention, set to elect new national officers for the opposition party, had faced legal challenges from within. Three PDP members—Austin Nwachukwu, chairman of PDP in Imo State; Amah Nnanna, Abia State PDP chairman; and Turnah George, South-South PDP Secretary—filed a suit claiming the party leadership was violating its constitution.

In their petition, the plaintiffs argued that the convention did not adhere to the PDP constitution, the 1999 Constitution, or the provisions of the Electoral Act, urging the court to restrain both the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding.

With the Oyo High Court’s ruling, the PDP is now poised to hold its national convention in Ibadan as planned, marking a critical step in the party’s internal elections and leadership reshuffle.
