Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, the influential leader of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has claimed that he personally spent ₦756 million to support the 2023 presidential campaign of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
MC Oluomo, a key mobiliser during Tinubu’s campaign, revealed the figure while addressing reporters in Lagos, insisting that the funds were used to ensure grassroots mobilisation and effective campaign outreach across the state.
Speaking on the expenditures, MC Oluomo highlighted that the money went into logistics, transportation, community engagement, and rally organisation. He defended the spending as necessary to galvanise voter support for Tinubu, who eventually won the presidential election.
The statement comes amid ongoing debates over the scale of financial involvement by local political figures and NURTW leaders in Nigerian elections. MC Oluomo’s disclosure is likely to reignite discussions on campaign funding transparency and the role of influential union leaders in political campaigns.
While he has been widely praised for his organisational role, critics argue that such massive personal spending by political mobilisers raises questions about accountability and the influence of money in Nigerian politics.
