Gospel music veteran Tim Godfrey has broken his silence following criticism over his latest single, “Infinity,” which features Afrobeats star Oxlade.
The collaboration, released in October 2025, sparked debate within the gospel community, with some fans questioning why Godfrey would work with a secular artist whose past has attracted controversy.
In an open letter titled “To the Labeled,” Godfrey addressed the backlash directly. He acknowledged being called “worldly,” “rebellious,” and “unspiritual,” but explained that his collaboration reflects a message of inclusion, grace, and reaching those often judged or excluded.
“He sat with the broken, touched the untouchable, and called the forgotten family,” Godfrey wrote, referencing the example of Jesus Christ.
Godfrey also used the announcement to preview his upcoming project, “No Label,” set for release on October 31, 2025.
He described the project as more than music, calling it a movement for freedom, love, and acceptance.
The controversy highlights an ongoing discussion in Nigeria’s gospel music scene about blending traditional gospel with contemporary sounds and collaborations.

While critics questioned the partnership, supporters defended Godfrey, saying the message behind the song is more important than the image of its featured artists.
As “No Label” approaches release, industry watchers and fans alike will be closely observing whether Godfrey’s inclusive vision resonates or continues to divide opinions.
