Nigerian celebrity chef and social media influencer Hilda Baci has joined the growing calls for justice in the case of 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje, pledging ₦2 million in honour of the late teenager.
In a social media post, Baci said, “A day can’t pass without someone asking me this question. Yes, I stand for justice and I pledge ₦2 million to honour Ochanya. And I have no issues with those who continue to smoke.”
The pledge comes shortly after Baci spoke about how becoming a parent at 25 transformed her outlook on life, highlighting the importance of responsibility and advocacy.
Ochanya Ogbanje’s death sparked nationwide outrage, with citizens and activists demanding swift legal action and accountability for those responsible.
Despite ongoing investigations, many members of the public have expressed frustration at the slow pace of proceedings.
Hilda Baci’s intervention has drawn attention back to the case, emphasizing the role of public figures in supporting victims’ families and raising awareness about child protection.
Legal experts and advocacy groups say such contributions help maintain momentum in long-standing cases while highlighting the broader need for reforms in child safety and justice systems in Nigeria.
