The Dangote Group has re-engaged engineers earlier dismissed from its refinery operations, redeploying them to other ongoing projects within the conglomerate.
A senior management source confirmed that the decision followed internal reviews and consultations aimed at maintaining industrial harmony after recent labour tensions between the company and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
According to the source, the affected engineers are being reassigned to projects in the cement, sugar, and rice production subsidiaries, as well as road-construction and mining operations across several states, including Kogi, Benue, Borno, and Kebbi.
“The company decided to redeploy the affected engineers to other projects rather than terminate their services completely. This will ensure that trained manpower is retained within the system,” the source stated.
The development comes weeks after reports of mass dismissals at the Dangote Refinery, which led to widespread reactions from labour unions. PENGASSAN had alleged that hundreds of engineers were sacked for union activities — an accusation the company denied, insisting that only a few were affected for administrative reasons.
In a statement, the Ministry of Labour and Employment welcomed the redeployment move, describing it as a positive step toward restoring industrial peace. The ministry also confirmed that no affected worker would lose their entitlements or be penalised for participating in previous negotiations.
