The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified one of its leading aspirants, Engr. Kayode Ojo, from participating in the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship primary election.
The decision was taken by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following the conclusion of a screening process for aspirants contesting the APC ticket for the 2026 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.
According to sources within the party, Ojo’s disqualification was based on irregularities flagged by the screening panel.
Although no official reason was publicly provided by the NWC at the time of this report, party insiders said the panel raised issues concerning his compliance with the nomination guidelines.
Engr. Ojo had earlier been granted provisional clearance, pending the resolution of multiple petitions questioning the validity of his nomination documents.
Specifically, he was accused of failing to produce the required number of qualified endorsers from each local government area, as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
His campaign had disputed the allegations, submitting additional documentation to the screening appeal committee, including membership slips, affidavits, and signed forms from supposed nominators.
The team had also alleged that certain party officials in the state manipulated the membership register to sabotage his chances.

The disqualification leaves Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Omolayo Oluremi as the key contenders ahead of the APC primary.
Ojo is yet to make an official statement regarding the party’s decision.
However, there are indications that his supporters may challenge the disqualification through legal or internal party mechanisms.
The APC has not issued a detailed statement on the matter but is expected to release an official list of cleared aspirants in the coming days.
The Ekiti governorship primary is scheduled to hold later this month, as the party moves toward solidifying its candidate ahead of the 2026 general elections.
