Fire at Rivers Secretariat Blamed on Electrical Fault, No Casualties

A fire outbreak occurred on Monday morning at the Rivers State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, affecting the Podium Block housing the Rivers State Pensions Board.

According to the Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Inyingi Brown, the fire was caused by an electrical fault. She confirmed that no casualties were recorded, and the incident was swiftly brought under control by personnel from the Rivers State Fire Service, with support from the Federal Fire Service and military fire units.

“The fire affected the ground floor of the Podium Block where the Rivers State Pensions Board is located. It was promptly managed, and the situation is now under control,” Dr. Brown said.

She commended the efficiency of the response teams and attributed the effective containment of the fire to recent investments by the state government in upgrading fire service infrastructure.

“No lives were lost, and no injuries were reported,” she stated.

Dr. Brown also advised civil servants and office users within the Secretariat to always switch off electrical appliances at the close of work each day to prevent similar incidents.
