Calls for Resignation Grow Amid Forgery Claims Against Tinubu’s Minister

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Geoffrey Nnaji, is currently under intense scrutiny following allegations that he submitted forged educational credentials during his nomination.

The controversy has sparked calls for resignation and demands for full investigations.

The Allegations

According to investigative reports, Nnaji claimed to have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as well as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, both of which are now disputed by the issuing institutions.

UNN stated that while Nnaji was admitted in 1981, there is no record that he completed his studies or was awarded the claimed degree.

NYSC authorities have also reportedly said that the certificate being presented is not authentic—claiming they could not authenticate it from their records.

The Fallout So Far

Civil society groups, including HEDA Resource Centre, have written petitions demanding that Nnaji be suspended pending an investigation and that past evidence be made public.

Critics argue that the integrity of Tinubu’s cabinet is at stake, pointing out that if such allegations are proven, they could damage public trust in government appointments.
