The Federal Government has successfully mediated an agreement between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), bringing to a close days of volatile standoff.
In a communique issued after intensive conciliation meetings held on Monday and Tuesday, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, confirmed that the parties reached a truce.
Key terms of the agreement include:
Reabsorption of disengaged workers into subsidiaries within the Dangote Group without loss of pay
A pledge that no worker will be victimised for their involvement in the dispute
PENGASSAN’s agreement to begin calling off the strike, contingent on the implementation of the truce
Sources reveal the government team included high-level figures such as the National Security Adviser, Ministers of Finance, Labour, Budget & Economic Planning, and officials from the DSS and NIA.

The dispute arose after Dangote’s mass dismissal of over 800 Nigerian workers, allegedly tied to unionisation efforts and claims of “sabotage.”
With this development, industrial peace is temporarily restored at one of Nigeria’s most critical energy assets. However, analysts warn that sustained compliance and goodwill will ultimately determine whether this peace endures.
